Lettsome Breaks 30-Year PanAm Qualification Drought

(PLTM) - ILCA 7 laser sailor Thad Lettsome clinched the single Santiago 2023 Pan American Games qualifier spot in final races at the San Salvador 2023 CAC Games.

Placing 2nd in the second race of the final day of racing Saturday, July 1, Lettsome would seal the spot with his best race of the series.

With an 8th place finish in the 7th and 9th races, Lettsome missed out on an overall 5th place finish by just 1 point to place 6th in the regatta.

The ultimate result is a significant breakthrough for the Virgin Islands as Lettsome becomes the first sailor for the BVI in 30 years to officially qualify for a Pan American Games.

The BVI Olympic Committee (BVIOC) sent major congratulations to Lettsome and his coaches, including Coach Chris Watters and the national sailing federation, Royal BVI Yacht Club on the historic success.
