Healing at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital is now extending beyond medicine and into the world of art.

The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has announced that artwork created through the Art Heals Project has been installed throughout the hospital, transforming hallways, waiting areas and public spaces into environments designed to inspire hope, reflection and well-being.

The initiative, launched in partnership with Creative Waves, aims to create a more welcoming atmosphere for patients, visitors and staff while highlighting the role art can play in the healing process.

According to BVIHSA, the large-scale pieces serve as daily reminders that healing is not only physical, but also emotional and deeply personal.

The authority said the project reflects its commitment to creating healthcare spaces that support holistic well-being and enhance the overall patient experience.

BVIHSA also expressed gratitude to the artists, community partners, sponsors and its collaborators at Creative Waves who helped bring the project to life.

“Together, these large-scale pieces serve as daily reminders that healing is not only clinical but also emotional, visual, and deeply human,” the authority stated.

The installation marks another step in BVIHSA's efforts to ensure that healthcare excellence extends beyond treatment and into every aspect of the patient environment.
