Hannah’s Foundation celebrated its first anniversary by hosting a Youth Water Safety Day for students of the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre (EHRLC), bringing together education, recreation and community engagement.

Founded by young philanthropist Hannah Kazembe, the organisation aims to empower young people and create positive change through education, community involvement and support.

A highlight of the event was a water safety session that taught children important safety practices while introducing them to sailing and kayaking activities through a partnership with BVI Water Sports.

The foundation said it hopes to continue working with BVI Water Sports to create future opportunities for children, including participation in sailing through the Special Olympics.

Explaining her motivation for supporting children with special needs, Kazembe said many do not always receive the same opportunities as others.

“Seeing their excitement, determination and willingness to learn was truly inspiring,” she said, referring to a previous training session with EHRLC students at Nanny Cay. “I believe every child deserves the chance to discover their abilities, build confidence and feel included.”

Students also received reusable water bottles as part of the celebration, promoting healthy habits and reinforcing lessons about hydration and water safety.

The foundation thanked EHRLC Principal Magdalene Allister, Richi Paul and Elizabeth Peters for helping organise the event. Appreciation was also extended to Emma and BVI Water Sports, as well as volunteers from Mutual Insurance (BVI) Agency Limited and Showers of Blessings International for their support.

According to the foundation, the anniversary celebration reflects the strong community partnerships that have helped advance its mission during its first year of service.
