The British Virgin Islands Under-15 Boys National Football Team departed today, October 21, for Baku, Azerbaijan, to represent the Territory at the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival.
The trip gives the young footballers an opportunity to compete on a global stage, testing their skills against international opponents while gaining valuable experience early in their development.
The BVI Football Association selected a 14-member squad drawn from several schools. The Territory has been placed in Group AC alongside Bermuda, Georgia, Namibia, Poland and São Tomé and Príncipe.
Matches are scheduled for October 24 to 30, with teams competing in an eight-a-side format featuring 20-minute halves. The competition includes an initial group stage followed by matches organised into performance tiers, allowing every team to continue playing through the final matchday.
For the BVI players, the festival offers exposure to different football traditions and playing styles, with the association highlighting its potential to strengthen their technical ability, confidence and overall development.
Their participation forms part of FIFA’s wider effort to expand access to international youth competition, giving young players from member associations of varying sizes the chance to learn, compete and build connections through football.
