Repairs to the 480,000-gallon Hannah Hill Reservoir are nearing completion, with the facility expected to return to service within two weeks and provide more reliable water to surrounding communities.
Minister for Communications and Works Kye Rymer recently visited the site, where contractors are reinstalling the reservoir’s floor.
“... The glass-fused panel floor is being reinstalled in its entirety,” Rymer said while providing an update on the project.
Work began on August 7 and was initially estimated to take four to six weeks. Rymer said the project remains on schedule.
“They have assured us that within the next two weeks, works will be completed here,” he stated.
Once the floor is installed, workers will reseal the bolts on the reservoir’s exterior panels.
Rymer said Hannah Hill is the first of several reservoirs being rehabilitated under an approximately $1.97 million contract awarded to Florida Aqua Store. Work will move to the Sabbath Hill Reservoir next.
“As soon as this is completed, we are going on to the next,” he said.
The remaining facilities are the Fort Hill, Sabbath Hill, Minton Hill on Virgin Gorda and Balsam Ghut reservoirs.
The rehabilitation programme is intended to increase water storage and improve reliability amid persistent supply problems across the Territory. Residents in several communities have endured extended outages, low pressure and irregular distribution, while homes at higher elevations have faced greater difficulty receiving water.
Rymer said the Hannah Hill project is a critical part of efforts to address those problems.
“We are hopeful that the residents within the community will have access to reliable water,” he stated. “This is a critical component that we are addressing.”
