Residents bathing from buckets and having to buy water deserve a consistent supply, People’s Leadership Movement (PLM) Third District candidate Clifton ‘Tito’ Forbes said as he pledged to work towards reliable water within the first 90 days of a PLM government.
Speaking at a meet and greet in Sea Cows Bay on Saturday evening, October 17, Forbes described the district’s water crisis as an emergency.
“How many of you had to buy water this year? How many of you have to take the bucket and bathe in it?” he asked, telling residents they were not alone in their experience.
While expressing gratitude for the well in Sea Cows Bay, Forbes said residents must have a dependable supply.
“I will work with my team to ensure that water flows consistently to the people of my district within the first 90 days of a PLM government,” he promised.
“Water in the Third District is an emergency. It must be resolved.”
Forbes said he hoped the problem would be addressed before the next election, but committed to working with his team to resolve it if it remained outstanding under a PLM administration.
He is seeking to represent a district held by incumbent Julian Fraser continuously since 1999, a tenure of 27 years.
No Johnny-come-lately
As he outlined his offer to residents, Forbes pointed to years of teaching children, mentoring young people, supporting sports, preserving culture, organising community activities and helping residents.
“My people, I am not a Johnny-come-lately. I repeat, I am not a Johnny-come-lately,” he declared.
Forbes said those contributions reflected a longstanding commitment to the district, undertaken because he cared about its people, families and future.
“My commitment to the people of this district did not begin with politics and it will not end with politics,” he said.
“Service has always been a part of who I am. Today, I am simply offering that continued service in a greater capacity.”
Beyond water, Forbes identified healthcare, education, employment opportunities, environmental preservation and sustainable development as priorities. He also pledged to address smoke, improve waste management and tackle derelict vehicles.
Promising practical and innovative solutions, transparency and accountability, Forbes said he would listen to residents and bring the same dedication to elected office that he had brought to his community work.
