PLM Looking Like Next Government – Vanterpool

People’s Leadership Movement (PLM) leader Mark Vanterpool says his party is taking shape as a contender to form the next government, with plans to field candidates for all 13 elected seats.

“The team is looking good as we go along. Every month, you will hear more about the candidates, but we are looking like the next government of the Virgin Islands,” Vanterpool said at a recent PLM meeting. “The PLM is working to get all 13 of the team elected. When you see the 13, you will know what I mean because we are going to be ready.”

The former Fourth District representative called on residents to prepare for what he described as “real representation” and a rebuilding of Road Town.

Taking a jab at current representative Luce Hodge-Smith, he said: “This is not a representation of moving trees and moving roundabouts and all kind of thing.”

His reference to trees comes amid public debate over plans to replace mature trees along DeCastro Street as part of a sidewalk improvement project. Project officials say the trees’ roots would be damaged during the works.

“District Four, the action man is back!” Vanterpool declared, saying residents would soon see a district office with a prominent sign. He said representation must also address the concerns people face in their homes and neighbourhoods.

‘Spanish Ambassador’

Vanterpool thanked members of the Spanish community for supporting him throughout his political career and predicted stronger support in the next election.

“Just remember who has been the Spanish Ambassador of the BVI for the last forty years. I have,” he said, describing himself as a longstanding ally as others seek the community’s backing.

“The most important thing for a representative is to represent his people individually,” Vanterpool added. “What are your concerns in your home? What are your concerns in your neighbourhood?”
