Premier and Minister of Finance Hon. Dr Natalio Wheatley, who is also the Seventh District Representative, has congratulated Team Tortola-BVI on capturing the 2026 King of the Court championship title and the tournament's $30,000 grand prize.
The Premier, a sponsor of the tournament, through his team, said he was especially proud to present the winnings to the homegrown champions following a week of high-energy basketball competition in the Virgin Islands.
The Premier noted that beyond the excitement on the court, the tournament delivered significant economic benefits for the territory.
According to Wheatley, hotels, car rental companies, restaurants and entertainment venues all benefited from the influx of visitors, while taxi operators, vendors, supermarkets and other service providers also experienced increased business during the event.
Wheatley said it was a pleasure to support the tournament and contribute to the participation of local athletes from both Tortola and Virgin Gorda.
The Premier also praised event promoter Steve Parillon for organising the competition and thanked the participating teams for helping to make the event a success.
βA special thank you goes out to promoter Steve Parillon for executing a phenomenal event, and to all the participating teams who brought their best to the court,β the statement said.
The Premier added that he looks forward to welcoming the tournament and its participants back to the Virgin Islands in the near future.
