The BVI Chamber of Commerce has described the killing of businessman Kai de Castro as a profound loss to the Territory’s business community, while condemning the “senseless gun violence” that claimed his life.

de Castro was shot and killed in the Brewers Bay area on July 28.

In a statement, the Chamber extended condolences to his family, friends, employees and loved ones, describing him as a respected entrepreneur, business leader and community member.

Through Main Street Restaurant, de Castro Marketing, Sakal Building and several other commercial ventures, the Chamber said de Castro created employment, supported families and contributed to the development of the Virgin Islands’ business sector.

“Kai’s legacy will live on through the businesses he built, the people he inspired and the lives he positively impacted,” the Chamber stated.

It added that violent acts affect not only the victim’s family but also employees, business partners, customers, investors and confidence across the Territory.

The Chamber called on the community to reject violence in all its forms and work collectively towards a safer, more secure and prosperous Virgin Islands.

“Today, the Chamber joins the wider community in mourning the loss of a man whose vision, leadership and entrepreneurial spirit will be remembered for years to come,” it stated.
