Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports Sharie de Castro has been praised for fighting to secure increased funding for the Territory’s athletes.

Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Natalio Wheatley praised the minister during a ceremony celebrating sprint star and Commonwealth champion Adaejah Hodge on Tuesday, August 11.

“I know the passion that the Minister has, not just for Adaejah, but all our athletes,” he said. “I know how she fights for funding. I know about the elevation of the funding into sports because of what she has fought for.”

The Premier also praised the Elite Athletes Programme, an initiative developed by the ministry under de Castro’s leadership. The programme provides financial assistance to elite athletes preparing for major regional and international competitions.

Political commentator Claude Skelton Cline also recently praised de Castro for her leadership in the sports and education sectors.
