Minister for Communications and Works Kye Rymer has been described as a “high-performing minister” by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Natalio Wheatley, who said Rymer continually presses for the resources needed to get work done.
Speaking recently about efforts to improve the Territory’s water supply, Wheatley praised the minister’s determination to resolve problems.
“I believe that the minister is extremely passionate about getting the work done. You know, he's a high-performing minister. He doesn't like when problems are not solved,” he said.
The Premier said that determination also places pressure on him, as Minister of Finance, to ensure Rymer has the support required to deliver.
“He puts a lot of pressure on me to make sure that he has what he needs to be able to get the job done,” Wheatley said.
However, he stressed that addressing the water challenges requires a team effort and expressed confidence that current investment would produce a reliable supply of potable water for residents.
The endorsement comes as residents continue to complain about inconsistent supply. Rymer recently said an additional $5 million for water infrastructure would go before the House of Assembly, supplementing the $8 million allocated from the Government’s $100 million loan. Rymer said a $20 million injection was needed to fix the entire system and provide a completion timeline.
Wheatley’s praise follows earlier endorsements of Rymer’s work by Deputy Premier Julian Fraser and political commentator Claude Skelton Cline.
