Fourteen internationally recognised experts will visit the Territory for the Restorative Justice and Pathways Conference from October 5 to 16.
The conference will focus on introducing restorative justice practices into the criminal justice and education systems, according to the Office of the Deputy Governor.
Guests will include former Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Dame Janice Pereira, Justice Alvin Pariagsingh, Justice Angelica Teelucksingh and Government leaders.
Deputy Governor David Archer Jr. said the conference advances a commitment made during the 2025 Virgin Islands Anti-Crime Summit to formally introduce a Restorative Justice Programme.
“We are completing drafting instructions for a comprehensive piece of legislation on the subject, and this conference will stand as an incredible learning opportunity for over 300 public officers and members of the community,” Archer said.
Public officers will attend criminal justice sessions from October 5 to 8. Educators will participate in sessions on introducing restorative justice into classrooms and the wider education system from October 12 to 16.
A smaller group of educators will also receive targeted training and become officially certified.
Sessions will cover strengthening victims’ voices, community partnerships in justice and prevention, youth justice, sustaining justice reform and building restorative classrooms.
Further information on opportunities for members of the public to attend will be announced through official channels.
