Newly appointed Acting Director of the Department of Water and Sewerage (W&SD) Lyndon Hodge has pledged to build a water and sewerage system capable of serving generations to come.
Hodge took up the post on 1 September 2026, at a time when the Territory is grappling with a major water crisis and the department is transitioning into the newly established Virgin Islands Energy and Water Corporation (ViewCo).
“We must be prepared not only to address the challenges of today, but also to anticipate the demands of tomorrow and build a water and sewerage system capable of serving generations to come,” Hodge stated.
According to a government press release, Hodge is a project management and technical operations professional with more than a decade of senior leadership experience. He is also credited with successfully leading organisational transformation in challenging environments.
As director, Hodge will oversee the department’s day-to-day operations, including the implementation of public policy and public health interventions and the effective delivery of services throughout the Territory.
He will also play a vital role as the department advances towards its merger with the BVI Electricity Corporation under ViewCo.
Hodge expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and outlined his commitment to effectively leading the department.
“I am deeply honoured to accept the appointment as Director of the Water and Sewerage Department and sincerely grateful for the confidence entrusted to me to lead this vital public service,” he said.
“As Director, my focus will be on strengthening the Department through strategic leadership, operational excellence, accountability, innovation, and investment in our people and infrastructure.”
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works Elvia J. Smith-Maduro welcomed the appointment and expressed confidence in Hodge’s leadership.
“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Hodge, who brings a wealth of leadership experience to the Department of Water and Sewerage,” Smith-Maduro stated.
“I am confident in his ability to deliver in the areas of operational efficiency, service delivery, and long-term infrastructure planning, and I look forward to the positive impact his leadership will bring to the department and the wider community.”
Hodge holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of the Virgin Islands and a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Roehampton.
His experience includes key leadership roles in the telecommunications sector. He served as Technical Operations Manager at Cable and Wireless and Head of Sales for Business and Retail at Caribbean Cellular Telephone.
