A 29-year-old man has been charged after police recovered a prohibited firearm and ammunition during an operation in Road Town last week.
Shakhoy Penn of Scatliffe Alley was charged with Possession of a Prohibited Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Explosives following his arrest on Friday, May 29.
According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), officers responded swiftly to reports of suspected gunfire in the Road Town area and observed a man acting suspiciously nearby.
The individual was detained and searched, leading to the discovery of a Glock 17 handgun fitted with an extended magazine containing 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Police seized the weapon and ammunition, and Penn was taken into custody.
The RVIPF said the recovery marks the latest illegal firearm removed from the streets as law enforcement continues efforts to tackle gun-related crime across the territory.
Penn remains in custody awaiting his appearance before the Magistrate's Court.
