Communications and Works Minister Kye Rymer is doing a good job overall and “learning fast” in his ministerial role, according to Deputy Premier Julian Fraser.
Fraser’s praise came as he commended Rymer for clearly explaining the Government’s electricity rate change targeting high-consumption customers during a recent sitting of the House of Assembly.
“I thought that the Minister of Communications and Works did an excellent job in his presentation,” Fraser said. “I must say that the kid is learning fast.”
Fraser, a former Communications and Works Minister, said Rymer was clear about the intent of the amendment and expressed his support for the measure.
“I want to tell him to keep up the good work and let him know that there’s a lot of work left to be done,” Fraser added.
The House approved an amendment to the Statutory Rates, Fees and Charges Act, allowing the BVI Electricity Corporation to increase rates for customers using more than 1,500 kilowatt-hours monthly.
Rymer, Fifth District Representative, said the change would affect only five per cent of customers, primarily large businesses, while 95 per cent would see no increase.
The praise follows recent comments by political commentator Claude Skelton Cline, who said the Fifth District is the only district receiving proper representation.
