A quantity of contraband was recovered at His Majesty’s Prison following a security operation launched in response to intelligence about a potential threat within the facility.
According to a Government Information Service (GIS) press release, prison officials implemented precautionary security measures after receiving information that prompted an immediate response.
The operation was carried out with support from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and other relevant agencies, while the National Security Council was kept informed throughout.
Authorities said the prison remained secure at all times and there was no risk to the wider community.
The operation included restricted movement, enhanced security measures and targeted searches of accommodation blocks and other areas of the prison.
A number of items of contraband were recovered and will be dealt with in accordance with prison rules and procedures.
GIS noted that intelligence gathering, searches and contraband detection are routine parts of prison operations and play a critical role in maintaining safety, security and good order within correctional facilities.
