His Majesty King Charles III has commended the Virgin Islands for its commitment to environmental stewardship, describing the Territory's sustainability efforts as an example for small island communities facing the impacts of climate change.

In a message marking Virgin Islands Day, the King congratulated the people of the Territory while highlighting the close link between the Virgin Islands' future prosperity and the protection of its natural environment.

“The prosperity and identity of the Virgin Islands is closely bound to the natural environment,” the King said.

He praised the Territory's continued investment in sustainability, pointing to the introduction of renewable solar energy in Anegada, the 2026 Impact Challenge aimed at protecting ocean health, and the ongoing partnership between the National Parks Trust of the Virgin Islands and Kew to monitor biodiversity.

According to the King, these initiatives demonstrate the value of collaboration between governments, businesses and communities in preserving the Territory's unique natural heritage.

“At a time when small island communities stand at the forefront of the effects of climate change, such efforts carry particular significance and serve as an example to others across our global family,” he said.

King Charles also extended congratulations to Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Natalio Wheatley and the people of the Virgin Islands on the occasion of Virgin Islands Day.

“I have long held a deep affection for the Overseas Territories and greatly value the distinct character, traditions and contributions of each within our wider British family,” he said.

The King concluded by expressing hope that the coming year would bring “continued progress, resilience and wellbeing” to the people of the Virgin Islands.
